OEA stands for Organized and Extreme Abuse. This acronym was created by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD).

OEA describes the structured manipulation of attachment needs through extreme conditioning and sadistic torture. Abusers employ "creative" methods to exploit victims, leveraging their belief systems and core values against them. OEA is concisely described as abuse with an end goal, highlighting the use of severe violence to indoctrinate or "train" victims in alignment with an established ideology.

OEA used to be known as RAMCOA, or ritual abuse, mind control, and organized abuse. As such, OEA is an all-encompassing acronym that describes the experiences of people who’ve survived RA, MC, and/or OA.

Some examples of OEA include:

  • abuse perpetrated by cults or high-control religions;
  • abuse perpetrated by gangs, cartels, clandestine cells, or trafficking rings;
  • abuse perpetrated by multiple government officials, healthcare professionals, or teachers;
  • abuse perpetrated by insular communities and transgenerational familial networks.
